Dolly Parton, Tom Cruise, Debbie Allen, and Wynn Thomas to Receive Oscar Statuettes at Governors Awards

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the honorees for the 16th Governors Awards, where recipients will be presented with Oscar statuettes.

The event, which kicks off the Academy’s 98th Oscars events, will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Ovation Hollywood.

The recipients of the Honorary Awards—each receiving an Oscar statuette—are Debbie Allen, Tom Cruise, and Wynn Thomas. These awards are given “to honor extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences in any discipline, or for outstanding service to the Academy”.

Additionally, Dolly Parton will be presented with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. This award is also an Oscar statuette. It is bestowed upon an individual in the motion picture arts and sciences whose humanitarian efforts have “brought credit to the industry by promoting human welfare and contributing to rectifying inequities”.

Producer Returns for Seventh Consecutive Event

Academy President Lynette Howell Taylor announced that Oscar-nominated producer and Academy Producers Branch governor Jennifer Fox will return to produce the 16th Governors Awards. This marks her seventh time producing the esteemed event.

Howell Taylor praised Fox, stating that her “expertise in producing the Governors Awards is unmatched,” and expressed excitement about welcoming her back to celebrate the four “truly remarkable honorees”.

Fox, who has produced or executive produced iconic films such as Michael Clayton (which earned seven Oscar nominations, including Best Picture), expressed her gratitude: “It’s always an honor to produce this joyous and esteemed Academy event”. She added that she is looking forward to helping pay tribute to the incredible achievements of all four honorees.

Fox’s extensive film credits over the last two decades include Syriana, Good Night, and Good Luck., The Bourne Legacy, Nightcrawler, and The Last Duel. She has produced the Academy’s last six consecutive Governors Awards.

The 16th Governors Awards is presented in partnership with Rolex, which is the Exclusive Watch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Governors Awards, alongside the Scientific and Technical Awards, are recognized by the Academy as methods of recognizing and celebrating the arts and sciences of moviemaking, including the Oscars.
