New Delhi: Raman Media Network (RMN) and RMN Foundation have continued to document and explain alleged irregularities linked to electronic voting machines (EVMs) in Indian elections through a dedicated Canva-based microsite titled EVMs in Indian Elections: Threat to Democracy.” The editorial initiative has been active for nearly five years and compiles research, complaints, public responses, and international perspectives on the use of electronic voting systems in India.

The microsite brings together a wide range of material, including references to The Smokescreen 2026 research report, which examines electoral opacity, institutional capture, and narrative management in Indian democracy. It also documents what RMN describes as the futile and inconsistent campaigns by opposition parties, particularly the Congress, to raise concerns over alleged election manipulation without sustained legal or street-level resistance.

A significant section of the microsite focuses on the volume of EVM-related complaints submitted by opposition political parties and citizens across multiple elections. These complaints allege that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has benefited from selective manipulation of EVMs in key state and parliamentary contests. Despite repeated petitions, the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Supreme Court of India have been accused of ignoring or dismissing these concerns without substantive investigation.

The platform also highlights parliamentary statements, citizen-led street protests, and an RMN public poll on EVM credibility. It carries curated news reports and analytical articles documenting voting discrepancies, abnormal turnout patterns, and counting anomalies reported in several elections.

The microsite questions the ECI’s long-standing assertion that while EVMs may malfunction, they cannot be tampered with to alter results, noting that these claims are often made without public technical audits or transparent verification. Particular attention is drawn to the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system, with allegations that what is displayed to voters may not always correspond to what is electronically recorded.

In an explanatory section, AI-based analysis tools, including ChatGPT, are used to outline theoretical vulnerabilities in EVM-based election systems, while a detailed report by the Citizens’ Commission on Elections is cited for documenting multiple abnormalities involving EVMs and VVPATs.

Citing the erosion of domestic oversight, the microsite calls for international engagement to safeguard electoral integrity, referencing former UN Secretary-General Kofi A. Annan’s warning that compromised elections undermine democratic legitimacy. It argues that continued inaction by Indian constitutional bodies strengthens the case for UN–Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) supervision of future elections, with the IPU headquartered in Switzerland.

The microsite also links to RMN’s broader editorial work, including the section “Power Play: Lok Sabha Elections in India,” which tracks political strategies, institutional responses, and voter disenfranchisement concerns.
