GENEVA – The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has announced that Geneva will serve as the world’s capital of artificial intelligence this summer, hosting the seventh AI for Good Global Summit from July 7 to 10, 2026. The flagship event, held at the Palexpo convention center, arrives as governments worldwide accelerate strategies for sovereign AI and its integration into global economies.
A Dual Focus on Innovation and Governance
The summit will run back-to-back with the inaugural UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance, taking place from July 6 to 7. Facilitated by UN Secretary-General António Guterres and coordinated by ITU and UNESCO, the dialogue will bring together Member States and stakeholders to shape the policies and international standards governing the future of AI.

“As artificial intelligence moves from strategy to real-world deployment, countries need the skills, solutions, and international standards for AI to work for everyone,” stated ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin. She emphasized that the summit is designed to turn AI breakthroughs into practical solutions that improve lives globally.
Scaling AI for Global Impact
Organized by the ITU in partnership with Switzerland and over 50 UN agencies, the summit serves as a primary platform for scaling AI applications in critical sectors such as healthcare, education, food security, and disaster risk reduction.
The 2026 edition follows a massive 2025 event that drew over 11,000 participants from 169 countries, including ministers from 100 nations. Swiss Federal Councillor Albert Rösti noted that Geneva remains a “central location” for showcasing these technological advances.
Summit Highlights and “Day Zero”
The event kicks off on July 7 with “Day Zero,” featuring hands-on workshops, startup competitions, and live demonstrations of cutting-edge tech. The main program, starting July 8, includes several high-profile tracks and premieres:
- Technology Demos: Showcasing agentic AI, brain-computer interfaces, robotics, and space computing.
- Quantum for Good: A dedicated track exploring how quantum information technologies might transform industries.
- Creative Programming: The premiere of RAISE, a documentary series executive produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, which explores AI’s role in solving urgent human challenges.
- Global Challenges: Multistakeholder dialogues addressing agentic AI security, deepfakes, and the energy demands of AI infrastructure.
Registration and Participation
While public registration is now open, the 2026 summit introduces a participation fee to enhance the attendee experience. However, participation remains free for ITU Member States, UN agencies, civil society organizations, and attendees under 18.
The event will also coincide with the WSIS Forum 2026, which runs from July 6 to 10, focusing on global digital cooperation. Media accreditation is currently being accepted for reporters wishing to cover both major events.
