Yash Raj Films (YRF) has officially announced the release date for the highly anticipated Mardaani 3, starring Rani Mukerji who will reprise her iconic role as the daredevil police officer, Shivani Shivaji Roy. The third instalment in Bollywood’s biggest solo female-led franchise is set to hit theatres on Friday, 27th February 2026, coinciding with the auspicious Holi festival.

This announcement, made around the release anniversary of Mardaani 2, confirms the return of Mukerji as the selfless cop who fights tirelessly for justice. The Mardaani franchise, which has garnered love and acclaim for over a decade, holds a cult status amongst cinema lovers and is recognised as India’s biggest and only female cop franchise.

The choice of release date, just before Holi on March 4th, is significant as the festival symbolises the triumph of good over bad. The filmmakers are positioning Mardaani 3 as a “bloody, violent clash” between Shivani’s inherent goodness and sinister evil forces. Rani Mukerji herself has described the upcoming edge-of-the-seat thriller as “dark, deadly and brutal”, further fueling the curiosity of fans and netizens.

Mardaani 3 will be directed by Abhiraj Minawala, who has been groomed by YRF. Aditya Chopra recognised Minawala’s potential and empowered him to assist on major YRF productions such as Band Baaja Baaraat, Gunday, Sultan, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, and Tiger 3. Minawala is currently the Associate Director of War 2 and is now entrusted with leading the Mardaani franchise.

Rani Mukerji expressed her excitement about returning to the role, stating, “I’m thrilled to announce that we are starting shooting of Mardaani 3 in April 2025.
