India and Pakistan Agree to “Full, Immediate” Ceasefire After US-Mediated Talks

RMN News Report

New Delhi/Islamabad – India and Pakistan have agreed to a “full and immediate” ceasefire following mediation efforts by the United States. The dramatic shift from intense hostilities to a ceasefire occurred rapidly on Saturday (May 10) evening.

US President Donald Trump announced the development at 5.33 pm on Saturday, stating that the agreement was reached after a “long night of talks” mediated by the United States. In his Twitter (X) message, President Trump congratulated both countries, saying they had used “Common Sense and Great Intelligence”.

Minutes after President Trump’s announcement, the ceasefire was confirmed by both India’s Ministry of External Affairs and the foreign ministry in Pakistan. India stated that the ceasefire on land, sea, and air was decided after Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations contacted his Indian counterpart on Saturday afternoon. The ceasefire officially came into effect at 5 pm.

Secretary Rubio also revealed that the two countries have agreed to begin talks on a “broad set of issues” at a neutral location. He noted that he and Vice President Vance had engaged with senior Indian and Pakistani officials over the preceding 48 hours, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and National Security Advisors.

Secretary Rubio commended Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif for their “wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace”.
