UNITED NATIONS, NY – In a significant diplomatic setback for India, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has effectively dismissed its long-standing allegations of state-sponsored terrorism against Pakistan. This development comes as Pakistan concurrently solidifies its international standing, securing key roles in influential UNSC subsidiary bodies for the 2025-26 term, roughly a month after ‘Operation Sindoor’.
Earlier in June, according to a news report of June 11 by The Indian Express, Pakistan was elected as a non-permanent member to two crucial subsidiary bodies of the UNSC. The nation will now serve as the Chair of the 1988 Taliban Sanctions Committee (TSC), established as a distinct committee in 2011, and as Vice Chair of the 1373 Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC).
Additionally, Pakistan will co-chair two informal working groups within the UNSC. These appointments underscore a growing international confidence in Pakistan’s commitment to global security frameworks. Sanctions Committees, such as the 1988 Committee, are tasked with monitoring and implementing specific sanctions regimes against individuals and entities. The CTC, a product of Security Council Resolution 1373 — a binding Chapter VII Resolution adopted unanimously after the 9/11 terror attacks — outlines extensive responsibilities for member states in countering terrorism.

The UNSC’s implicit rejection of India’s accusations has been further amplified by strong endorsements from major global financial institutions. Both the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank have demonstrated robust confidence in Pakistan’s economic future, approving substantial financial support. This financial backing is widely seen as an implicit dismissal of India’s persistent claims, signaling a notable shift in international perception and financial confidence towards Pakistan.
Despite repeated accusations from the Narendra Modi-led Indian government, concrete and verifiable evidence linking Pakistan to terror activities within India remains conspicuously absent. International regulatory bodies like the IMF and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), which scrutinizes money laundering and terror financing, have also not substantiated India’s claims of Pakistan currently supporting terrorism.
Critics suggest that this consistent lack of proof, coupled with the Modi regime’s alleged refusal to engage in independent and transparent investigations, raises serious questions about the underlying motives behind India’s aggressive rhetoric and its broader impact on regional stability.
Observers contend that the Modi regime and certain sections of the Indian media, reportedly influenced by the government, have consistently labeled Pakistan a “terrorist state” without presenting credible evidence. This branding, some argue, may serve a political agenda primarily aimed at consolidating Hindu nationalist support for Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) domestically. The latest developments at the UNSC and from global financial institutions suggest a growing international skepticism towards these unproven allegations.
