ICICI Bank’s Chaotic KYC System Spirals Out of Control: More Harassment, More Errors, Zero Accountability

Despite Repeated Complaints, ICICI Bank Continues Bombarding Customers with Wrong and Unnecessary KYC Notices

New Delhi | December 3, 2025

ICICI Bank has crossed all limits of carelessness and customer harassment. Even after repeated complaints and wide public reporting, the bank continues to send me incessant KYC reminder emails—so aggressively and unprofessionally that it has now started dragging even unrelated accounts into its chaotic mess. On December 3, 2025, I again received the same obnoxious KYC email about my current account, containing the same absurd line: “Please ignore if KYC is already updated.”

This clearly exposes the utter failure of ICICI Bank’s systems and staff competence.

ICICI Bank Has Gone Berserk: Bombarding Customers with Wrong KYC Emails

On November 26, ICICI Bank sent me a fresh email—not about my current account (the real subject of their repeated SMS/email harassment)—but about my Savings Bank Account XXXXXXXX1563, which has absolutely no KYC issue whatsoever.

This shocking error shows how:

  • careless

  • unskilled

  • incompetent

  • untrained

the ICICI Bank employees are.

In any serious corporate environment, such negligent staff would be immediately sacked. But at ICICI Bank, these employees continue to operate with full impunity, thanks to the bank’s loose internal controls and total absence of accountability.

ICICI Bank’s Absurd Email: Addressing the Wrong Account, Ignoring the Real Issue

The email sent by the bank on November 26 states:

“We refer to the email addressed to ICICI Bank Ltd regarding your Account XXXXXXXX1563… We understand your concern is related to the KYC update for the aforementioned account…”

This is completely false.
My complaint was NOT about this account at all.

This is pure sloppiness.

The email then adds the typical corporate hypocrisy:

“We focus considerable efforts on training our staff…”

This statement is laughable.
Because the very same staff handling my complaint demonstrated complete incompetence by addressing the wrong account.

Meanwhile, the actual issue—relentless, baseless KYC harassment for my current account (XXX368)—remains unresolved.

Even today, December 3, ICICI Bank has again sent me the standard obnoxious email asking for KYC update with the bizarre, contradictory line:

“Please ignore if KYC is already updated.”

A bank that doesn’t even know whether my KYC is updated or not should not be allowed to operate in a digital banking environment.

This Is Not Just Harassment—It Is a Systemic Failure

The KYC issue has now transformed into a full-blown exposure of ICICI Bank’s:

  • poor internal systems

  • carelessly trained staff

  • dysfunctional processes

  • misleading, contradictory communication

  • total disregard for customer time, privacy, and mental peace

This breakdown is especially alarming in a digital era where even small fintech companies maintain cleaner, more transparent systems compared to a giant bank like ICICI.

Repeated Violations: A Case for Regulatory Scrutiny

Given the repeated, reckless harassment, the following concerns arise:

1. Privacy Breach

Sending incorrect account-related communication demonstrates a breach of internal controls.

2. Harassment Through Unsolicited Messages

The continuous barrage of emails and SMSes violates basic consumer rights.

3. Failure of Record-Keeping

If the bank cannot determine whether my KYC is updated, its entire KYC compliance framework is questionable.

4. Misleading & Contradictory Communication

“Please ignore if KYC is already updated” is a phrase that exposes utter confusion within the bank.

ICICI Bank Must Be Investigated

This ongoing harassment shows a clear systemic rot.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and other regulators must examine:

  • ICICI Bank’s broken KYC systems

  • misuse of customer contact information

  • harassment of low-risk customers

  • incompetence and negligence in staff communication

  • failure to adhere to the simplified KYC norms issued by RBI

  • complete absence of digital KYC options

Enough Is Enough: ICICI Bank Must Fix Its Broken Systems

This is not customer service.
This is customer torture.

ICICI Bank must:

  1. Stop sending unsolicited KYC emails/SMSes.

  2. Implement AI-based KYC validation to detect unchanged profiles.

  3. Create a simple YES/NO digital KYC confirmation process.

  4. Train its staff properly instead of issuing hollow assurances.

  5. Apologize publicly for harassing customers with wrong and irrelevant messages.

  6. Fix its internal data accuracy systems to prevent future errors.

Until then, customers will continue to suffer due to ICICI Bank’s chaotic and outdated processes.
