The absence of such transparency doesn’t just invite skepticism—it provides the vacuum necessary for regime collaborators to operate.

The timeline of Sonam Wangchuk’s exit reveals a meticulous “narrative laundering operation.” After infiltrating the youth-led Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on June 28—using the students’ legitimate grievances over education reform and paper leaks as a prop—Wangchuk began a week-long choreography of departure.

Following a staged police intervention on Saturday, July 18, Wangchuk was moved to Safdarjung Hospital, signaling the beginning of the end. By July 23, he concluded his 26-day “strike” clandestinely, accepting food from Modi government ministers without even notifying the CJP leadership. This abandonment left the Gen-Z protesters isolated at Jantar Mantar while their supposed mentor retreated to the safety of government-managed medical care.

This contradictory messaging was a deliberate maneuver to scuttle the movement’s momentum. Khan’s weaponized reach provided the necessary “social permission” for Wangchuk to desert the students and head back to Ladakh, leaving the CJP’s primary goals unfulfilled.

3. The Business of Protest: Rebooting a Flagging Brand

4. The EVM Shield: Twelve Years of Misrule and Machine-Managed Victories

To survive, the movement must immediately purge itself of influence-seekers and media-hungry opportunists. If the students wish to restore democracy rather than just generate headlines, they must adopt the following Path to Democracy:

1. Independent Leadership: Distancing the movement from retired actors, pseudo-psephologists, and discredited politicians who view protests as a platform for personal brand subsistence.
2. Measurable Targets: Moving beyond the “raw crowd size” at Jantar Mantar toward specific, measurable plans to challenge the autocratic structure and the EVM-based electoral system.
3. Avoidance of Delay: Terminating useless meetings with government emissaries. These protractions are designed to quell the movement through exhaustion and deception.

The time for symbolic, theatrical fasts is over. The CJP must act with speed and independence. Without quick, visible action that addresses the core of the regime’s power—the integrity of the vote—this movement will be another footnote in the history of state-managed deception.
