Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court ruled against solitary confinement for Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, ordering Adiala Jail officials to restore family visitation and phone rights.

Pakistan lockdown to block PTI protest march has led federal authorities to seal off Islamabad using massive security barriers as supporters of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan press ahead with nationwide demonstrations. The government’s sweeping security response comes in anticipation of large scale rallies organized by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party demanding Khan’s release from prison.

Severe Security Restrictions Disrupt Federal Capital

To prevent PTI demonstrators from entering the federal capital, authorities placed more than 1,000 shipping containers across primary access routes, with many reinforced using metal spikes. Sandbags have been positioned along key bridges, and the central highway connecting Islamabad with Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has been closed.

A total of 22,000 police and paramilitary security personnel have been deployed throughout Islamabad, where public gatherings remain strictly banned. Similar security deployments were enacted across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The intense security grid has caused widespread disruption to daily life and commerce, leaving local businesses struggling to receive essential goods and supplies.

PTI Adjusts March Timeline Amid Mass Detentions

Imran Khan has remained incarcerated since August 2023 following legal convictions in multiple cases. Amid intensifying state countermeasures, PTI leadership announced a delay in their demonstration schedule, shifting the start of the protest march from September 27 to October 4. Party leaders stated that the strategic postponement aims to sustain cumulative pressure on the government.

The political standoff has extended to Khan’s family members. Three of his sisters—Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan, and Noreen Niazi—have been taken into custody. Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi were ordered to be held for 30 days under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, following the prior detention of Aleema Khan.

Islamabad High Court Mandates Adiala Jail Reforms

Alongside the street-level tension, significant legal developments occurred regarding Khan’s detention conditions. The Islamabad High Court issued binding directives barring any further solitary confinement for Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi.

Under the court order, Adiala Jail authorities must facilitate regular meetings between Khan and Bushra Bibi, permit family visits, and establish telephone communication between Khan and his sons. The High Court instructed prison officials to implement these measures immediately and submit an official compliance report within 15 days.
