Yogi Adityanath Mocks SP’s PDA Pitch as Opposition EVM Rhetoric Signals Advantage for BJP in 2027 UP Elections
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath criticized Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s PDA pitch, reframing it as “Parivar Development Authority.” While opposition parties including the SP, Congress, and BSP continue to allege EVM manipulation, their decision to contest under the current voting framework underscores structural weaknesses that position the ruling BJP for a probable victory in the 2027 Assembly elections.

As political preparations intensify across all 403 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath delivered a sharp critique of Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav’s core strategy, signaling the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) aggressive positioning against the opposition.
Re-framing the PDA Pitch: Accusations of Dynastic Governance
Speaking at the AajTak Panchayat, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath targeted the Samajwadi Party’s PDA slogan—originally framed by Akhilesh Yadav ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as an acronym for Pichda (Backward Classes), Dalit, and Alpsankhyak (Minorities). Adityanath reinterpreted the acronym as “Parivar Development Authority” and “Paraya Dhan Aapna,” accusing the SP leadership of prioritizing family interest over broad-based societal development.
The BJP leadership underscored historic allegations of lawlessness and governance deficits during previous SP tenures. Adityanath also dismissed Akhilesh Yadav’s recent remarks suggesting he could secure the chief ministership without directly contesting an assembly seat, drawing parallels to Akhilesh’s overconfidence prior to the SP’s defeat in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh elections.
Opposition EVM Rhetoric and Structural Vulnerabilities
Beyond the Samajwadi Party, the broader opposition coalition—including the Indian National Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)—has focused significant political capital on questioning election integrity. Opposition outfits have staged protests alleging voter roll discrepancies and raised persistent doubts regarding Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), extending their attacks to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Adityanath characterized these objections as a symptom of electoral defeat, noting that opposition parties routinely resort to questioning voting technology and election officials when failing to secure public mandates.
From an analytical standpoint within the RMN Democracy Monitor (RDM) framework, this reliance on EVM rhetoric reveals a core political weakness. Despite voicing public distrust in EVMs, all major opposition parties—the SP, Congress, and BSP—are set to contest the 2027 elections using the exact same electronic voting infrastructure. Without offering a distinct structural alternative or mounting a sustained movement to alter the electoral format, contesting under a system they simultaneously critique undermines their strategic posture among voters.
2024 Baseline vs. 2027 Assembly Dynamics
While the PDA formula yielded tangible results for the SP-led INDIA bloc in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections—where the SP secured 37 seats and Congress won 6, outperforming the NDA’s 37 seats in the state—assembly dynamics operate on localized governance evaluations.
The ruling BJP enters the 2027 campaign with key structural advantages, leveraging claims of law-and-order enforcement, major infrastructure development, and an established administrative footprint. Combined with the opposition’s fragmented narratives and tactical reliance on EVM grievances, political probability strongly indicates that the BJP remains positioned to retain power in Uttar Pradesh in 2027.
