Islamabad – Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, has strongly criticised India’s recent diplomatic actions, labelling them “unserious” and “inappropriate,” and has promised that a firm, coordinated response is forthcoming. The remarks were made speaking to a private news channel on Wednesday (April 23).
Dar stated that India has failed to provide any evidence linking Pakistan to recent terrorist incidents and appears to be reacting out of anger. He commented that India’s announcements “reflect a lack of seriousness”.
Furthermore, Dar noted that India’s approach of blaming Pakistan for its internal problems is not new, suggesting that “India throws the blame on Pakistan whenever it faces a crisis”. He described India’s recent diplomatic moves as hasty and emotionally driven, adding, “It is not appropriate to vent anger over terrorism in this way”.
These criticisms come amid escalating tensions between the two countries following India’s reported suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and expulsion orders issued to Pakistani nationals.
In response to India’s statements, Dar confirmed that a National Security Committee (NSC) meeting has been convened for Thursday (April 24) to formulate Pakistan’s official stance. He assured that the NSC will issue a “comprehensive response” to India’s “inappropriate” statements.
Contextually, a horrific terror attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, recently resulted in the deaths of 26 people, primarily tourists. While India vowed a strong response and targeted retaliation against those responsible and their “masters”, Pakistan has denied any involvement in the attack.
Pakistan’s Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, described the killings as homegrown insurgencies against the Indian government, stating it was “easy” to blame Pakistan.
Kashmir is a disputed territory claimed by both India and Pakistan, and has experienced a decades-long insurgency against Indian rule, with Delhi accusing Islamabad of funding and supporting it, a charge Pakistan denies.
Meanwhile, India’s Home Minister Amit Shah said, “Every Indian feels the pain of losing loved ones in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, this sorrow cannot be expressed in words.”
