New Delhi, India – The Opposition INDIA bloc, led by Rahul Gandhi, has intensified its challenge against what it describes as the “vote chori model” involving the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Election Commission of India.
At a pivotal meeting on Thursday (August 7), the bloc resolved to actively combat the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. Earlier that day, Rahul Gandhi presented his findings on the alleged systematic voter theft by the BJP of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in collusion with the Election Commission of India. He has previously claimed to possess “100% proof” and even an “atom bomb” regarding these electoral manipulations.
However, these accusations have been met with strong criticism, particularly from national award-winning journalist Rakesh Raman, who contends that Rahul Gandhi, despite positioning himself as the Leader of the Opposition, acts more like a “news reporter or a YouTuber”.
According to Raman, Gandhi continuously reports on election thefts but “never gives any solution to overcome the fraudulent election manipulation”. He asserts that without these alleged malpractices, “neither BJP nor Modi can win,” yet Rahul Gandhi is perceived as “so weak and intellectually challenged that he cannot prevent repeated election thefts”.

Rakesh Raman elaborates on his critique, stating that Rahul Gandhi’s communication is “poor,” “weak,” and “fragile,” with his influence largely “restricted only to Twitter”. He highlights that when pressed by journalists for the next steps, such as approaching the Election Commission or the courts, Gandhi “has no answer” and resorts to repeating his speeches.
Raman firmly believes that Rahul Gandhi’s ongoing statements have “not even an iota of impact on Modi,” who is aware of the proverb that “barking dogs seldom bite”. He describes Gandhi’s recent speech as “false, vague, and meaningless,” and “misleading,” advising against believing it.
Critics suggest that concrete solutions are necessary beyond mere allegations. One proposed course of action, put forth by Raman, is for Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party to “boycott all future elections and start indefinite mass street protests” in front of the Supreme Court and the Election Commission office, given that Indian courts reportedly “cannot dare to challenge Modi’s wrongdoings and Election Commission is complicit in election frauds”.

He further suggests nationwide indefinite protests and acts of civil or electoral disobedience by Congress workers and citizens to achieve free and fair elections in India. He dismisses press conferences by Rahul Gandhi with “dummy journalists” as achieving nothing.
According to Raman, the issue of election manipulation is widely known, and he himself, as a country expert on democracy and human rights for top international organizations, has extensively written about it, including publishing a magazine issue on “election theft” and creating a microsite on how Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are allegedly tampered with.
He notes that beyond EVMs, electoral rolls and electoral bonds (used for “bribes”) are also involved in election theft. Raman further points out a significant challenge: out of India’s 1 billion voters, approximately 80% (800 million) are uneducated and may not even know who casts their vote, making them largely unconcerned about such issues.
He also claims that election manipulation is “selective,” occurring only in constituencies where Modi intends to secure his Prime Ministership or in key states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan, to project the BJP as a popular party.
While Congress and Rahul Gandhi are very weak, there is no other effective opposition leader or party that can stop election frauds. Rakesh Raman asserts that Rahul Gandhi is the “weakest opposition leader India has ever seen”.
He criticizes the Congress party and other opposition groups as “intellectually challenged” and “extinct,” with state-level parties primarily focused on retaining power within their own states rather than participating in discussions on national democracy. Raman concludes that without a concrete solution, Rahul Gandhi’s ongoing claims of election fraud are “meaningless”.
