Raman Media Network (RMN) Company has published “Raman’s Tech Tale Series – Knowledge Stories for Children,” an innovative storybook concept designed to educate children aged 6-12 years about information and communications technology (ICT) through engaging stories.

These books aim to make children curious about technology as they grow and simplify tech education for parents and teachers. The series is authored by Rakesh Raman, a national award-winning journalist and founder of RMN Foundation. This work has also been recognized in Bookbird, a journal of international children’s literature.

One such story, “Katie Catches Blacky in Peace Forest,” introduces the concept of biometric security. The narrative centers on the Peace Forest, which loses its tranquility when Blacky, a cunning wolf, begins to attack and vanish after preying on weaker animals.

Blacky eventually obtains a master key, allowing him to enter even locked homes, creating widespread panic among the animals. Katie, a cat, becomes deeply concerned for her kittens, Pingu and Mingu, as Blacky sets his sights on them.

Seeking help, Katie consults Matu, the wise monkey, who provides her with a unique lock. This special lock has no traditional key and can only be opened by Katie’s specific finger impression.

Matu explains that fingerprints are unique to each individual, ensuring that only Katie can open the lock. Furthermore, if anyone else attempts to open it, the lock is designed to handcuff the culprit and trigger an alarm.

When Blacky tries to attack Katie’s kittens, he is baffled by the lack of a keyhole. Upon touching the lock, which is programmed to recognize only Katie’s fingerprint, Blacky’s wrist is trapped, and a loud siren alerts the other animals. Blacky is caught and brought before the Lion King, eventually being released with a warning never to return, thus restoring peace to the Peace Forest.

The story serves as an analogy for biometric security, a real-world technology application for authentication. In this system, users are verified based on unique physical characteristics, such as fingerprints (like Katie’s in the story), or behavioral traits before gaining authorized access.

Matu’s lock exemplifies a biometric device, highlighting how these systems are considered more reliable than traditional passwords because biometric traits are distinct for every individual, controlling access to places like Katie’s home in the story.

The series is now being produced in multimedia formats, with “Katie Catches Blacky in Peace Forest” being the first in this multimedia project.
