Following weeks of restricted access, former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan met with his sister, Uzma Khan, on Tuesday at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. The meeting, which lasted 25–35 minutes, broke a prolonged deadlock that had fueled protests by PTI supporters and family members over restricted visitation rights.
The meeting came after repeated complaints from the family and PTI that access had been blocked for several weeks despite a court order mandating twice-weekly meetings. Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, had previously filed a contempt petition against Adiala Jail officials for allegedly defying these court directions.
Mental State and Allegations of Torture
Sources close to Uzma Khan reported that Imran Khan appeared “fine, fit, and in high spirits”. Uzma Khan confirmed that the former prime minister remained mentally strong and conveyed a message intended for his party leadership and for what he described as an “undemocratic regime”.
However, the meeting also brought forth serious allegations regarding his imprisonment. Although Uzma Khan noted that her brother’s “morale remained high,” she mentioned he was angry about certain issues related to jail administration.
Sources and PTI statements indicate that Khan claimed to be undergoing “mental torture” in prison. He specifically alleged that Pakistan’s army chief, General Asim Munir, was responsible for this “mental torture”.
In a detailed statement issued shortly after the meeting, PTI reiterated its claim that the former prime minister has been “arbitrarily detained” for 850 days under “inhumane” conditions. According to PTI, Khan conveyed strong messages, alleging severe restrictions and mistreatment.
Claims of Inhumane Conditions and Military Control
Khan reportedly claimed that the “military establishment” is responsible for his situation. The PTI statement quoted him as warning that if any harm comes to him, he holds the “Army Chief and the Director General of the ISI responsible”.
The PTI claims that Khan has been subjected to prolonged solitary confinement and has been denied access to basic necessities. Specific conditions alleged by the party include being:
• Denied access to sunlight.
• Denied electricity and clean water.
• Denied medical care.
• At times, not allowed contact with family or legal counsel.
Khan is further quoted as saying he has been kept in conditions comparable to those of death-row inmates, having experienced periods without electricity and confinement “in a cage”.
Refusal to Negotiate and Allegations of Dictatorial Rule
The former prime minister reportedly alleged that intelligence agencies control all aspects of his imprisonment. He also claimed that efforts were being made to transfer his cases to military courts, stating that the charges against him would not stand in civilian courts.
The party also claimed Khan accused the current military leadership of imposing “dictatorial rule” and undermining the Constitution. Despite the alleged inhumane conditions, Khan reportedly reiterated his refusal to negotiate or compromise, telling his sister he intends to continue a struggle for constitutional rights and political freedoms. PTI emphasized that these remarks reflect Khan’s personal statements from jail. As of the latest reports, the military and government have not yet issued a response to these latest allegations.
Earlier Appeals for Intervention
These recent claims follow an earlier public appeal made by Khan’s sons, Suleman and Qasim Khan, in May 2025, who urged US President Donald Trump and the international community to intervene to secure their father’s freedom. The sons, who stated they broke their silence because they could no longer remain quiet, also described their father’s alleged “inhumane conditions,” including prolonged solitary confinement and lack of access to doctors. They also called for the restoration of democracy in Pakistan.
