WASHINGTON D.C. — The long-shadow of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation has expanded across the highest levels of American leadership following the Department of Justice’s release of previously withheld files and mounting legal threats against former President Bill Clinton.
DOJ Releases Withheld Trump Documents
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) recently published a “trove” of Epstein-related files that include FBI summaries of 2019 interviews with a woman who leveled unsubstantiated sexual assault allegations against Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein. The DOJ stated these documents were initially withheld because they were “incorrectly coded as duplicative”.
According to the memos, the unnamed woman claimed she was introduced to Mr. Trump by Epstein in the 1980s when she was a teenager and alleged that both men assaulted her. The White House has fiercely denied these claims, calling them “completely baseless” and “backed by zero credible evidence”. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt maintained that the President has been “totally exonerated” by the release. While Mr. Trump is mentioned thousands of times in the broader DOJ files, he has not been charged with any crimes related to Epstein survivors.
Bill Clinton Under Perjury Scrutiny
Simultaneously, former President Bill Clinton is facing significant criminal exposure following his February 2026 testimony before the House Oversight Committee. Legal experts warn that Clinton could face charges of perjury or making false statements if it is proven he used a “memory defense” to mislead investigators regarding his whereabouts and associations.
The investigation is reportedly utilizing “unimpeachable evidence,” including official Secret Service logs and a “Hot Tub” photo, to challenge the former President’s testimony. Beyond potential federal incarceration, Clinton faces the permanent revocation of his law license and tens of thousands of dollars in civil contempt fines.
Musk and Congress Demand Transparency
The resurfacing of these documents has been met with public pressure from tech mogul Elon Musk, who has used his platform, X, to question the official narrative surrounding Epstein’s death. Musk has utilized Grok, an AI tool, to search for electronic records of those who traveled on Epstein’s private plane and recently demanded the release of more information, pointedly asking, “Where is Phase 2?”.
In response to the DOJ’s handling of the files, the House Oversight Committee has voted to subpoena Attorney General Pam Bondi to explain why certain documents were missing from the public database. This bipartisan move follows a law passed last November compelling the department to release all material from its investigations into the disgraced financier.
