ChatGPT Unveils New Image Library for AI-Generated Art

RMN News Story Highlights
  • OpenAI has launched an image library within ChatGPT, enabling users to manage their AI-generated visuals in one place. This feature is available on both mobile and web platforms for all users.
  • The new ‘Library’ section in ChatGPT’s sidebar displays a visual grid of all previously generated images, allowing for quick browsing.
  • From the library, users can edit, save, or share images directly, with an edit function that links back to the original chat for prompt modification and a ‘Select’ tool for targeted editing.
  • The introduction of this image library follows the rollout of GPT-4o-powered image generation in ChatGPT, which is known for producing realistic and stylised images that can now be better managed.

OpenAI has launched an integrated image library within ChatGPT, providing users with a dedicated space to manage their AI-generated visuals. This new feature, accessible on both mobile and web platforms, is being rolled out to all ChatGPT users, including both free and paid subscribers.

The new ‘Library’ section can be found in the sidebar of the ChatGPT interface. Upon selection, users will see a visual grid showcasing all the images they have previously generated within their conversations. This allows for quick browsing and easy access to artwork created over time.

Beyond being a visual archive, the library also functions as a workspace. A prominent “Make images” button located beneath the grid enables users to initiate new image-generation sessions by providing text prompts. This action opens a fresh conversation where users can describe their desired image, and ChatGPT will generate visuals accordingly.

Each image within the grid comes with interactive options for further actions. Users now have the ability to edit, save, or share any image directly from the library. The “Edit” feature provides a direct link back to the original chat where the image was initially created, enabling users to refine the visual by modifying the prompt. Furthermore, a “Select” tool empowers users to highlight specific parts of an image they wish to alter, offering more targeted editing capabilities without the need to start the generation process anew.

In a tweet posted on April 17, OpenAI said with a video demonstration, “You can also now share images you create directly from ChatGPT.”

This significant update arrives shortly after OpenAI began rolling out image generation powered by GPT-4o within ChatGPT. This model is recognised for its capability to produce both realistic and stylised images, which users can now more effectively manage and reuse through this new interface.

To access the ChatGPT image library, users simply need to open the ChatGPT mobile app or web platform and tap on the ‘Library’ option located in the sidebar. From there, they can seamlessly view, edit, and manage images from their previous sessions, as well as generate new ones using prompts. This update is specifically designed to streamline the user experience for image generation within ChatGPT.

This move by OpenAI signifies a continued effort to enhance the functionality and user-friendliness of ChatGPT, particularly in the realm of AI-generated visuals. The introduction of a dedicated image library addresses a key need for users who frequently create images with the platform, providing them with better organisation and control over their creative output.
