The Cutting Edge of Web3 and AI Converges in Tokyo: TEAMZ Summit 2025 Concludes with Record Attendance, 2026 Edition Announced

Tokyo played host to the highly successful TEAMZ Web3/AI Summit 2025, a landmark event that brought together over 10,000 attendees, including side events, making it Japan’s largest Web3 and AI summit to date.

Held at the Toranomon Hills Forum on April 16th and 17th, 2025, the summit provided a comprehensive overview of the current state and future prospects of the rapidly evolving Web3 and Artificial Intelligence ecosystems in Japan and globally.

The event, themed around the intersection of these transformative technologies, attracted a diverse range of participants, including government officials, major tech companies, startups, international VCs, investors, and developers. Organisers have already confirmed the next edition, TEAMZ Summit 2026, will take place on April 15–16, 2026.

Day 1 of the summit kicked off with welcoming remarks from Tianyu Yang, CEO of TEAMZ, who highlighted the mission of “connecting people directly” and the significant growth of the event since its inception in 2017.

A key focus of the opening day was the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo, positioned as a “People’s Living Lab for Future Society” and a significant opportunity for the societal implementation of Web3. The EXPO2025 Digital Wallet, featuring an “EXPO Token” valued at 1 yen, was showcased as a crucial element in driving mass adoption, allowing users to acquire NFTs and SBTs, earn “experience points,” and even make payments at general Visa-affiliated stores via SBI’s charging stations. Genki Oda, Chairman of JVCEA, stressed the importance of Web3 in developing Osaka into an international financial city.

The convergence of Web3 and AI was a recurring theme throughout the summit. On Day 2, a session titled “Digital Economic Zone in Tokyo Pioneered by Web3 and AI” featured Nobuko Irie of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly, who outlined the government’s policy to accelerate the digital economy with a focus on the “Fusion of Tradition and Innovation”.

This includes initiatives like the “Tokyo Innovation Base (TIB)”, funding through public-private partnerships, the international event “SusHi Tech Tokyo,” and the “Tokyo Financial Award” to promote financial innovation and security token issuance. Tokyo aims to create unicorns, attract global enterprises, and build a safe and open Web3/AI ecosystem.

The concept of a “Self-Sovereign Society Realized by Mirrored Body – AI × Web3” was explored by speakers including Yuya Higuchi (NEC) and Yoichi Ochiai (University of Tsukuba). This session centred on the “Mirrored Body” concept at the Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai’s “null2” pavilion, envisioning a society where individuals regain control over their data through the fusion of AI and Web3. Digital avatars reflecting personal data and AI agents mediating services with user consent represent a move away from traditional data-monopolising platforms.

The future of Web3 funds was also a hot topic, with discussions highlighting a shift towards “flight to quality” and increasing selectivity in investments following the 2021 boom. Capital sources are polarizing towards institutions focusing on Bitcoin (BTC) and retail investors interested in meme-based micro-tokens. Asia, particularly Japan with its progressing regulatory frameworks, is seen as a key region for the next market cycle, driven by JPY-denominated stablecoin laws and participation from major corporations.

Major Japanese corporations, including Sony Bank, KDDI, Rakuten Wallet, GREE, and TV Asahi, shared their strategies and challenges in adopting Web3. Their focus is on the social implementation of Web3, with initiatives ranging from NFT collaborations and marketplaces to Web3 wallets and token investments. Common challenges include lowering UX barriers, integrating with existing businesses, and navigating legal and accounting complexities.

Web3 security was highlighted as a critical area, with discussions on emerging threats and defense strategies. The instantaneous and irreversible nature of losses in Web3 necessitates a security-first approach, especially with the rise of AI-driven attack methods. The Japan Financial Services Agency (FSA) was commended for its strict security measures.

The evolution of Web3 gaming was addressed by Ryo Matsubara, CEO of Oasys, who noted a shift towards “token-centric games” leveraging unique Web3 UX and the expansion into RWA tokenization of physical collectibles.

Real-World Asset (RWA) tokenization was a significant theme across both days, with discussions on its potential to increase liquidity, improve yield opportunities, and democratize access to financial services. Challenges remain in underdeveloped regulations and user adoption. The future of stablecoins in Japan and their global competitiveness was also examined, with Japan entering its “Year One of Stablecoins” following revisions to the Payment Services Act. SBI became the first to handle USDC domestically.

The summit also addressed the geopolitical impact of Web3 and AI, with discussions on using blockchain for transparency in political funding and the potential of DAOs in local governance. Japan’s position and policy support in the global Web3 and AI competition were debated, with calls for flexible policies, separate taxation for crypto assets, and the legalisation of Bitcoin ETFs.

The closing of TEAMZ Summit 2025 saw Tianyu Yang express gratitude and announce the TEAMZ Summit 2026. The next edition aims to further explore the intersection of Japanese culture and intangible software technologies, inviting global and local attendees to experience the uniqueness of Japan.

The TEAMZ Web3/AI Summit 2025 underscored the dynamic growth and increasing importance of these technologies, particularly within the Japanese context, and set the stage for continued innovation and collaboration in the years to come.
