
China Stands by Pakistan Amidst India Tensions; Islamabad Calls Beijing ‘Most Reliable Friend’
Echoing Pakistan’s sentiment, China reaffirmed its commitment to its long-standing relationship with Islamabad.

As tensions escalated between India and Pakistan, culminating in a ceasefire agreement, Pakistan highlighted the strong support received from China. During a media address on Saturday (May 10), Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif gave a special shoutout to China, characterising Beijing as the country’s “most reliable friend”.
Prime Minister Sharif’s remarks came just hours after China voiced support for Islamabad. He explicitly thanked China “from the bottom of my heart,” acknowledging that China has “stood by Pakistan” for the past 58 years. Sharif made these comments while announcing the ceasefire with India, also thanking other nations like the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and Iran for their support in establishing the ceasefire.

Echoing Pakistan’s sentiment, China reaffirmed its commitment to its long-standing relationship with Islamabad. China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that his country would “continue to stand firmly by Pakistan in upholding its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national independence”.
Wang Yi acknowledged Pakistan’s “restraint” and appreciated its “responsible approach under challenging circumstances”. He referred to China as Pakistan’s “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partner and iron-clad friend”. These statements were made during a telephonic conversation between Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
