India is currently experiencing a fresh rise in Covid-19 / Coronavirus cases. This situation has prompted the Health Ministry to increase surveillance efforts. Kerala is currently reporting the highest number of active infections.
The country is witnessing a gradual uptick in Covid-19 cases, with active infections now surpassing the 2,700 mark. According to Health Ministry data updated on May 30, the total active caseload stands at 2,710.
Kerala has emerged as the worst-affected state, with 1,147 active cases, including 227 new infections reported on May 29. Following Kerala, Maharashtra has 424 active cases, Delhi has 294, Gujarat has 223, while Tamil Nadu and Karnataka each have 148 active cases. West Bengal has logged 116 cases.

In response to the situation, Union Health and Ayush Minister Prataprao Jadhav stated that the government is fully prepared to handle any situation. He confirmed that both the central health department and the Ayush ministry are fully alert and closely monitoring the situation across all states. Discussions have taken place with respective health and Ayush secretaries and other concerned ministers.
Jadhav also mentioned that the infrastructure built during previous Covid waves, such as oxygen plants and ICU beds, is being reviewed. Preparations have already begun, and he stated that the health systems are well-equipped and ready.
However, medical experts have stressed that there is no immediate cause for alarm. While there has been a slight rise in cases, experts note that the current strain appears to be a mutated version of the virus that is far less virulent than earlier variants. Most infections so far have been mild and do not require hospitalisation.
Despite the recent increase drawing attention to preparedness, so far, there is no indication that the country is entering a new wave. Authorities continue to advise caution, but not panic.
