New Delhi – Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday (July 24) announced a significant leap forward in the capital’s public healthcare system, rolling out the expanded Health Information Management System (HIMS) and inaugurating a total of 34 Ayushman Mandirs and eight Jan Aushadhi Kendras. This move is set to digitalize many aspects of patient care, aiming to eliminate the need for long queues for appointments.

Chief Minister Gupta hailed the HIMS as a pivotal step towards enhancing transparency and efficiency in public healthcare. The system, powered by the NextGen e-Hospital software, integrates Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs, enabling secure and centralized tracking of patient health data.

With over 93 lakh ABHA IDs already generated in Delhi, the health data of every patient will now be digitally recorded, which is expected to facilitate continued and effective treatment by doctors. Officials confirmed that HIMS will allow patients to book appointments online, receive digital OPD slips, and access their health records in real time. The system is currently live for OPD registrations in 35 government hospitals and is planned for phased implementation across all public health institutions.

In addition to the HIMS expansion, CM Gupta inaugurated 34 Ayushman Mandirs located in various areas including Shilampur, Kalkaji, Burari, Yamuna Vihar, Gandhi Nagar, Malviya Nagar, Shakur Basti, Paschim Vihar, and Begaumpur. These centers are designed to offer a comprehensive range of primary health services, such as vaccination, maternal and child care, wellness counselling, and yoga sessions. Health Minister Pankaj Singh stated that the government has established a total of 68 Ayushman Mandirs within a month, underscoring a rapid strengthening of Delhi’s health infrastructure.

Furthermore, eight new Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been opened in government hospitals to provide essential medicines at subsidized rates, benefiting the economically disadvantaged. Singh also noted that 17 such centers were opened earlier this year, with plans for more in the coming months.

Chief Minister Gupta took the opportunity to critique the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, asserting that despite substantial investments in healthcare, no significant projects were completed. She highlighted the lack of operational hospitals, medicines, doctors, and accountability, even during the Covid-19 pandemic, stating they were left with “foundation pillars and iron porta cabins”.

Singh reinforced this sentiment, emphasizing that the current government is focused on delivering results and completing projects that were pending for years, contrasting themselves as “a government that works” rather than one of “advertisements”. The Chief Minister expressed a vision for Delhi to become a hub of super-speciality hospitals and modern facilities, attracting patients seeking quality treatment from across the country.
