U.S. President Donald Trump has once again thrust himself into the international spotlight—this time by claiming credit for brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan in May 2025, following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir.

According to President Trump, his administration played a pivotal role in de-escalating hostilities between the two nuclear-armed nations, who were on the brink of war. The United States has also signaled its interest in facilitating a permanent resolution to the Kashmir conflict, one of the world’s most enduring territorial disputes.

Trump’s recent diplomatic moves come as he reportedly eyes the Nobel Peace Prize, a goal he has spoken about publicly in previous years.

Kashmir: A Diplomatic Tightrope

Resolving the Kashmir dispute would require navigating decades of political, military, and humanitarian complexities. Both India and Pakistan claim the region in full, but control it in parts, and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people themselves remain a sensitive and unresolved issue.

Trump’s unorthodox style has won him both praise and criticism. Supporters say his blunt, transactional approach could cut through diplomatic deadlock, while skeptics argue that the region demands a deeper understanding of its history, communities, and human rights challenges.

Could the Nobel Committee Take Note?

The Nobel Peace Prize has previously been awarded to world leaders who contributed to peace-building efforts. Barack Obama, Jimmy Carter, Nelson Mandela, and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed are among those who have received the honor for their roles in reducing conflict and promoting diplomacy.

If Trump were to succeed in resolving the Kashmir issue, it could be seen as a significant enough achievement to earn him a place in that distinguished list. However, much depends on whether such a resolution is peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable.

So, the question arises:
Can Donald Trump win the Nobel Peace Prize if he succeeds in resolving the Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan?
